Staff absenteeism is a common problem of several Nursing Homes in Australia. Injuries, illness, and medical appointments during the cold and flu season, are the most commonly reported reasons for missing work. And surprisingly, study also finds that not eliminating the bad nursing home smell largely contribute to the relative higher causes of staff absenteeism for most nursing care businesses in the country. This article discusses the proper and most effective way on how to get rid of nursing home smell and improve staff absenteeism in this care sector.

Diagnosing the Problem - How to Get Rid of Nursing Home Smell

Many of our clients through-out Australia have 60 to more than 200 residents in their Nursing Home facilities.  Their residents suffer from incontinence issues that is a recurring problem through-out these facilities.  Cleaning and regular hygiene routines is something that staff can deal with.

There are some issues which cannot be resolved as part of regular cleaning routines due to residents remaining in their rooms for long periods, or not allowing regular cleaning to take place as often as is needed.  In this situation odour problems from one room can affect surrounding areas, which can reflect badly on the home.

A major issue with residents who have dementia is the inappropriate urination and the resulting odours, which are impossible to remove even with the strictest hygiene routine.

We suggest to Nursing Homes that they use removable carpet squares through-out the facility because it is a common problem that residents with dementia that they just don’t always make it to the toilet in time.  It doesn’t eradicate residual odours or bacteria.

Staff can clean the area, but no amount of cleaning can remove the stench.  The longer it remains, the worse the smell gets.

Solution – Airsteril – air purification 100% natural

Within 1 hour, the units remove 98.11% of bacteria, germs, moisture and smells.  Within 24 hours, Airsteril removes 99.99% of germs and bacteria, but units should continue to operate 24/7.  Airsteril also removes dust mites, mould, foul smells and all the micro-organisms you cannot see without a microscope.

In a typical nursing home that has 2 or 3 share lounge areas and long corridors, we would recommend installing 5 to 7 Airsteril units.  You will notice a difference within 1 hour, but you should wait 24 hours for your nose to notice improvements to the smell.  Within a week of operation staff, residents and guests will see significant results while it works it way beneath areas that you cannot see. 12 month Case Study – Ambulance Association UK

The Ambulance Association in the UK have shown significant improvements in staff absenteeism since using the product.  But, I will talk about that towards the end of this article.

Staff are cynical at the start, but after a week, the staff are unanimous regarding the air quality and reduction of odours.  We receive glowing testimonials from family and visitors to the facilities and they don’t have to put up with the stench anymore.  It is a totally natural process and contains no chemicals.

The smell is an indication that there is a deeper problem.  Have you ever smelt mould in a bathroom, but just can’t figure out where it is coming from?  People pay specialists thousands of dollars to quote for the removal of mould, but if you don’t know where it is coming from, it is almost impossible to fix.  That is, until Airsteril technology was developed.

What makes Airsteril different?

It is a business-grade air purifier with a difference.  It removes moisture, mould spores, fungus and VOCs by treating the root cause.  When you kill the germs and bacteria, the smell magically disappears, which eliminates the need for toxic chemicals and/or fragrances.

What about hard surfaces?

You will hear over and over again about the HEPA technology of air purifiers.  Airsteril is not just an air purifier, it is an air sterilisation unit.  It does not just remove airborne germs and bacteria… it kills germs from furniture, mattresses and on hard surfaces.  In fact it goes beneath the surface and kills the germ and bacteria from carpets and beneath the floorboards, where can cannot see the lurking germs and bacteria.

The scientific explanation is:

The units take in contaminated air to purify it using a combination of 5 technologies working together.  Internally, UV germicidal irradiation and photocatalytic oxidation which works to eliminate micro-organisms and in addition, a plasma quatro (TIO²) superoxide ions and Triatomic Oxide actively seek and eliminate bacteria, viruses, fungi and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the air and all surfaces. This is enough way to get rid of nursing home smell.
